Mama Said Cut Him Out

You knew there’d be some hiccup with the latest cable news phenomenon, but I wouldn’t have guessed it’d be this:

After the network announced that Sarah Palin would host a special Thursday called “Real American Stories” — featuring an interview with LL Cool J, among other celebrities — the rapper hit back on Twitter claiming they were lying.

“Fox lifted an old interview I gave in 2008 to someone else & are misrepresenting to the public in order to promote Sarah Palins Show. WOW,” he tweeted.

Fox News responded Wednesday morning, saying they would cut the footage of LL Cool J (aka James Todd Smith) from the special.

“Real American Stories features uplifting tales about overcoming adversity and we believe Mr. Smith’s interview fit that criteria,” a network spokesperson told TVNewser. “However, as it appears that Mr. Smith does not want to be associated with a program that could serve as an inspiration to others, we are cutting his interview from the special and wish him the best with his fledgling acting career.”

In a way, you have to admire Fox’s honesty in copping to this, even if it is a pattern (see: Tea Party Protests). But the Mean Girlsian tone of their response is pretty sad. One can certainly debate the quality of LL’s acting, but not the longevity. Dude had has own sitcom in the 90s, has been in movies ever since, and is on a popular television drama currently; hardly “fledgling.” (Check out his IMDB page here) Furthermore, acting isn’t even his primary profession; LL’s correctly regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all-time and releases a hit song basically any time he wants to.

Tangentially, as I continue my principled stand against Twitter, I do wonder if LL tweets “*licks lips*” between every substantive language-bearing tweet.
